Jawan delivers the second biggest opening weekend for a Bollywood film in Australia.

After the record-breaking success of Pathaan earlier this year, Bollywood is back in the spotlight after the action-packed blockbuster Jawan recorded the second-biggest opening weekend of all time for an Indian title in Australia.

The highly anticipated film recorded $2.1 million at the box office across its first four days, only $96K behind the record set by Pathaan in March, highlighting the growing demand for Indian films in Australia.

Seen by over 122,000 people across the weekend, the film skewed heavily towards male audiences while also appealing broadly to the youth demographics with 72% of the total audience falling between P18-39.

"Over the past few years, we’ve seen a growing appetite for Bollywood films in Australia. Titles like RRR, Pathaan, and now Jawan have achieved remarkable success at the box office and admission results, which reinforces the significant role cinema can play as a powerful medium for brands looking to connect with culturally and linguistically diverse audiences.” said Paul MacGregor, Director of Strategy and Marketing at Val Morgan Group.

With a 90% audience score on the critically acclaimed Rotten Tomatoes, the high-octane spy thriller co-written and directed by Atlee, takes audiences on an emotional journey of a man who is set to rectify wrongs in society and fulfil a promise made years ago, however, his personal vendetta leads him to confront a monstrous outlaw who has caused extreme suffering to many and who knows no fear.

The film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, and Priyamani in lead roles, as well as Shah Rukh Khan who also starred in Pathaan.
