Four highly-anticipated blockbuster films for some of our all-time favourite movie franchises are hitting the big screens, all within the next 12 weeks! Each are expected to lure in huge fanbases that have grown and evolved over decades. Let’s delve into some bite-sized facts about the upcoming films.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

  • 2nd film in the franchise.

  • It has been 6 years since the first film was released back in 2016, however the 2nd instalment of Doctor Strange is also likely to be attracting a broader fanbase of Marvel-lovers spanning over multiple generations. The Marvel Cinematic Universe begun 14 years ago, in 2008, however the comics date back to the 1930s!

  • Benedict Cumberbatch predicts that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will mirror the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home… let’s see if he’s right!

  • It has been rumoured that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to have even more character cameos than Marvel’s Endgame. We can’t wait to find out if this is true!

  • The first Doctor Strange grossed $678 million worldwide. It looks like the 2nd film could well and truly push the series past the billion dollar mark, making it a billion-dollar movie franchise. We’re excited to see how the series does here down-under, with the first film grossing $15.9 million Australia-wide.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

  • 3rd film in the Fantastic Beasts series, however it is often perceived to be included as a part of the Harry Potter film franchise.

  • Fanbase of 25 years. The first Harry Potter film came out in 2001 (11 years ago), however the first book in the series was first published in 1997, generating a loyal fan-base of ‘Potterheads’ that spans over multiple generations.

  • Multi-billion dollar movie franchise: So far, the Harry Potter movie series has brought an astonishing $9.2 billion worldwide, and $290.5 million in Australia.

Top Gun: Maverick

  • 2nd film in the franchise.

  • There has been 36 years of build-up and anticipation since the first film was released 1986. The time is finally (almost) here!

  • Worldwide box-office: $357 million.

  • Tom Cruise, as a big believer in ‘realism’, was determined for the young actors playing the aviators in the film to have a genuine understanding of army

    training, so he made sure they actually experienced it!

Jurassic World: Dominion

  • 6th film in the franchise.

  • It has been a journey of 29 years since the first film, Jurassic Park, was released in 1993, allowing fans to whip themselves up into a dinosaur-enthused frenzy for almost 3 decades!

  • Multi-billion dollar franchise: the movie series has grossed $108.5 million in Australia so far, and $5 billion worldwide.

  • It was a monumental moment when ‘Jurassic Park’, overtook ‘ET’ to become Stephen Speilberg’s biggest film ever, and one of the greatest films of all time.
