Oppenheimer Was Designed, Filmed And Crafted For The Big Screen Experience.

Universal Pictures have recently released a ‘Shooting For IMAX’ featurette for the upcoming mega-budget, historical drama biopic, Oppenheimer. The clip explores how and why the film was designed, filmed, and crafted for the ultimate big-screen experience. It emphasises the emotional power, depth, intimacy, and magic that the IMAX format brings to life.

As an audience, we can expect to be taken on an incredibly emotional journey described as a “pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.” Director, Christopher Nolan, describes Oppenheimer as one of the “biggest stories imaginable”.  This emotional odyssey will be further amplified by the theatrical experience, immersing audiences in the most powerful way possible.

Executive producer Thomas Hayslip praises Nolan's constant innovation and boundary-pushing. He emphasizes the significance of juxtaposing the colour and black-and-white scenes, revealing the extraordinary lengths the production team went to deliver this visual experience. Since there is no existing 65-millimetre black-and-white format, he explains that the production team actually had to create the black-and-white film used for shooting entirely from scratch.

Unprecedented efforts have been made to achieve unmatched quality, going so far as to use practical effects instead of relying solely on CGI to create the awe-inspiring nuclear explosion scene.

In terms of the cast, Cillian Murphy will portray the enigmatic J. Robert Oppenheimer, with Emily Blunt serving as his wife, 'Kitty.' They will be joined by esteemed actors such as Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Florence Pugh, and many other A-list talents.

We couldn’t be more excited to catch this unmissable epic thriller in cinemas on July 20. Find out more about Oppenheimer here.
