Elvis receives 12 minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival, and Lisa Marie Presley’s response brings Austin Butler to tears

The 2022 Cannes Film Festival marked its 75th anniversary, along with the undeniable and global return of cinema.

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis stole the show, receiving the longest standing ovation of the year at the festival. The standing ovation lasted for a spectacular twelve minutes.

As the applause continued, Austin Butler was seen in an emotional embrace with Priscilla Presley, who had flown to Cannes for the film premiere.

Not only has Austin Butler, Baz Luhrmann and the film as a whole received enormous amounts of praise from the general public, but most importantly they have received overwhelming praise and love from Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ former wife, and now also his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

A few weeks ago, Lisa Marie Presley shared her thoughts on the film on Instagram after months away from the platform.

In her post, she described the film as “absolutely exquisite” and “nothing short of spectacular.”

Butler revealed that Lisa Marie Presley’s response to the film brought him to tears.

“Austin Butler channelled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.) You can feel and witness Baz’s pure love, care, and respect for my father throughout this beautiful film, and it is finally something that myself and my children and their children can be proud of forever.”

Lisa Marie shared that she was brought to tears after her children’s reactions to the biopic. She thanks Baz Luhrmann for “setting the record straight” in such a “deeply profound and artistic way.”

“I can’t tell you enough how much I love this film and I hope you love it too. Everyone involved poured their hearts and souls into it.”

Just over a week ago, Warner Bros. released the second official trailer for the film, which had been building colossal hype leading up to the premiere at Cannes Film Festival.

In the trailer, we get a taste of the film’s soundtrack, including Doja Cat’s “Vegas.” Along with many of Presley’s biggest hits, the movie will also include original songs and recordings from Eminem, CeeLo Green, Swae Lee, Denzel Curry, Jack White, Diplo, Tame Impala, and Maneskin.

The first listen of "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Kacey Musgraves is sure to give you goosebumps!

You can catch Elvis in cinemas on June 23, 2022.
