In the number one spot for its fifth week in cinemas was Sony’s Australian-based romcom, Anyone But You. Over the weekend, it took $1,514,754, averaging $4,196 over 361 screens and has made $18,273,955 in Australian cinemas to date.
Given the Summer hit’s huge takings, it’s no surprise that it has now become the second highest-grossing rom-com of all time in Australia. While Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s chemistry sizzles, this milestone also proves that the genre is still alive and well in a world filled with streaming services and dating apps.
Synopsis: Despite an amazing first date, Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben’s (Glen Powell) initial attraction quickly turns sour. However, when they unexpectedly find themselves at a destination wedding in Australia, they pretend to be the perfect couple to keep up appearances.
2. Wonka - $1,288,259 (1)
Coming in at number two was Warner Bro’s Wonka. For its seventh weekend in cinemas, the Timothée Chalamet-led film, which saw him earn a Golden Globe nomination, took $1,288,259, averaging $4,001 over 322 cinemas and down 25% from last week.
Wonka has now made a delicious $36,653,619 in Aussie cinemas to date.
Synopsis: With dreams of opening a shop in a city renowned for its chocolate, a young and poor Willy Wonka (Chalamet) discovers that the industry is run by a cartel of greedy chocolatiers. The film also stars Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Matt Lucas.

Making its debut in the number three spot was Mindblowing’s Fighter. The film grossed $1,226,084, averaging $8,821 over 139 screens.

In fourth place for its third week of release was Roadshow’s The Beekeeper. The Jason Statham-led film took $1,169,984 averaging $4,062 over 288 screens and has made $5,807,506 in Australian cinemas to date.
Synopsis: One man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after it’s revealed he’s a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers.
5. Mean Girls - $1,077,644 (3)
Paramount’s Mean Girls took the number five spot over the weekend for its third week in cinemas. It took $1,077,644 locally, averaging $3,027 over 356 screens and has now made $8,362,872 in Aussie theatres to date.
Synopsis: New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) gets welcomed into the top of the social food chain by an elite group of popular girls called the Plastics, ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Renee Rapp).
