Anora director makes history with record-breaking Oscars win.

The 97th Academy Awards capped off one of the most unpredictable and thrilling awards seasons in recent memory, packed with shock wins, lengthy speeches, and show-stopping performances. While Conclave and The Brutalist were initially considered frontrunners for Best Picture, it was Sean Baker’s Anora that stole the night, making history with an incredible sweep. Baker, who directed, wrote, and edited the film, took home an unprecedented four Oscars—Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing—the most individual wins for a single filmmaker. In his third speech of the night, Baker made a passionate plea for audiences to continue supporting cinemas, reinforcing the power of the big-screen experience.
